I was honoured to facilitate the Inaugural Africa Fiscal Hosting Convention from 9-10 May 2024 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The landscape of fiscal hosting in Africa remains uncharted. There is a lack of information about the entities involved, the range of services provided, and avenues for capacity-building and support. Furthermore, fostering solidarity among African fiscal hosting organisations and other roleplayers is critical to the growth and development of fiscal hosting on the continent.

Organised and hosted by CivSource South Africa, the event brought together more than 50 representatives of African fiscal hosting organisations, funders and other strategic stakeholders under the theme, “Shaping the Future of Fiscal Hosting in Africa”.
It was a landmark opportunity for participants to reflect on the key challenges and opportunities for fiscal hosting in Africa and to chart a course towards more significant impact and sustainability. The presentations and discussions covered fiscal hosting models and experiences from different parts of the continent, challenges related to cost, compliance and the constraints of shrinking civic space, and the interventions required to strengthen and expand fiscal hosting in Africa.

The convention formed part of CivSource South Africa’s current research efforts on fiscal hosting in Africa, including mapping African fiscal hosting organisations.
